WIP Better late than never!

Here is a very unfinished version of my Goodnight Moon Contest submission. Please excuse the sloppiness...it's how I work things out.

Sketchies

Not a lot of free time to blog, but I am trying to keep my pencil/pen moving at all times!
This is hedgie surfs. I am hoping to turn a lot of my sketches to color soon!

So funny!

So I started to see a super funny phenomenon on Facebook yesterday. Kitty Booties everywhere! I saw that Kirsten Hall had started a hilarious Pinterest Cat Bums Board and is collecting Cat Butt illustrations. Hee hee, I couldn't resist making one myself. I immediately thought of my dearly departed kitty, Camille, whose belly was so round she could never reach to clean "that area". It was always fun to watch that little bowling ball try so hard. It's sort of like me trying to do a sit up right now. Ugh...ugh...

Alice in Indecisive-land

So like my fellow SCBWI-Carolina illustrators, I've been drawing and painting away on my contest submission. I'm afraid I need to stop. I'm on the verge of overworking this sucker. I need to stop messing with it and get it in the mail. Now to choose between my two versions. hmmm..... I know these 2 versions look entirely different, right? They do when you stare at them much much too long.

Gung Hay Fat Choy y'all! Happy Year of the Dragon!

I know I'm a day late, but Happy Chinese New Year!

I sketched this guy a few weeks ago and decided he needed to come to life...a little late. This weekend I learned about the fun traditions to celebrate from my funny friend, Cindy (seriously funny, check out her blog!). We didn't pass out any red envelopes with money(maybe next year!), but we did enjoy the evening with some friends eating some delicious Chinese food and thinking about the rest of the year. Here's hoping for the BEST DRAGON YEAR EVER!

Finally! The ipad app is out there!

I'm so excited that I'm finally allowed to share what I've been working on for the past year! The Dressup Day with Misa Mouse and Friends, ipad app game is launching today! It was a lot of work and a lot of learning, but so fun to do.

So the in the game, you unlock each costume treasure box to "win" or unlock each costume. Then you can dress up each character however you like and take them to the "puppet stage" to pretend play.  I think Pickles the Pup is my favorite character to dress. It was like a game itself coming up with the costume pieces for each character. It made me think about my Fashion Plates that I was obsessed with as a kid, but only way better! I always felt limited with those things. Man, if there were only iPads around back then.

My son really loves it. He only dresses Camo Cat up as a Cowboy though and takes him to the desert to stand on a cactus and giggle. It so cute to watch him make the characters talk to each other in their funny voices. He always makes me be a princess. I love dressing them up in different goofy outfits and that drives my 3 year old nuts, "NO! That princess dress doesn't go with the cowboy hat!" and then proceeds with the face palm.

It's now available on itunes, if you want to check it out (or buy it!). I really hope it does well. I really like it. Quacking Frog Productions put the game out and I'm so grateful that they chose me to help create such a fun project.

Hey! I hope you bunnies and squirrels have a warm and wonderful Holiday season! I'm working on getting back to the swing of this illustration gig after this school semester is over.

Lookie!

I got copies of the magazine pieces I did a few months back. Please excuse the poor photography. My camera is broken and I used my iPad to take these. It's such a cute magazine and I recognized the cover illustration by Julissa-Mora right away. She has a portfolio on That's My Folio too! Cute stuff! Check her out!

Illustration Friday-Scary!

Here is an Illustration Friday post for Scary. This guy doesn't really seem so scary though, I think it's the pink hair. He's recycled from an older illustration, but I wanted to participate this week. I'm  a busy girl.

That's My Folio- Featured Artist

That's My Folio has selected me as this week's featured artist! I'm so honored. A while back they offered me a free year's membership to their portfolio site, and boy did I need that! I am really liking being involved with them. They are so helpful and I just love how it looks. Plus, I'm surrounded by so many talented illustrators, it's just so very cool. Thanks so much Patrick and Lanette! What a great service for illustrators!

Hibernate!

It's been so long since I've done Illustration Friday. It seems like I've said that a lot in the past 3 years, but Jennifer Bower inspired me with her cute blue bear. I struggled with finding time for this one, so I decided to give myself permission to be loose and a bit sloppy. I'm a little paralyzed by over thinking my style since the SCBWI-C conference. I loved my sketch for this, but when I went to finalize it, I couldn't make a decision on what direction to go. I keep hearing voices in my head from Faculty from the conference about colors, style, and whatnot. The color set is more muted than what I normally used, and I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. I will have to revisit this drawing when I have looser deadlines. Here is the sketch...

I still am planning on updating about the über-fabulous SCBWI-C conference. I'm snowed under with deadlines!
